Down memory LANE

With Mary Jayne

As it appears that Munising Altran is reactivating a trolley in Munising, it brings me back to this picture taken probably in the 1970s or 80s when I remember the trolley then available was rented out to escort weddings around town for the time between the church ceremony and the reception. And in this case, the trolley is seen parked in front of the Munising Senior Center (the building is now part of Barge Inn), no doubt awaiting its patrons. It sounds now that around June 1, the trolley will be available for trips around Munising, AuTrain, Grand Marais, etc. It should be a big asset and I am sure it will be enjoyed. This shows a segment of the senior citizen Kitchen Kettle Band, which performed frequently in Alger County. May it be noted that the Munising Senior Center started in about the early 1970s and was NEVER subsidized by government funds. They were a very proud self-sufficient group, taking a small mortgage out in the early 1970s and purchasing their own building. Many, many enjoyable years existed until finally in the early 2000s, the club finally dissolved as the world has slowly changed, as we all know, clubs having more and more difficulties as culture changes. And the Kitchen Kettle Band may have not been the most melodious, however, it was the most fun. The drum remains for display at the Alger County Historical society on Washington Street.
