Down Memory Lane with Mary Jayne

Most of us don’t remember what M-28 looked like in the old day. This is a view of the old highway leaving Munising going toward Marquette leading up to the Holiday Inn Express, except the old road was immediately next to the lake what is now called West Shore Drive. Being 95 years old, I remember going to Marquette via the Chatham/Eben/Skandia route when I was a child. Not sure what year M-28 was built. (Photo courtesy of Mary Jayne Hallifax)
Local cookbooks were frequently sponsored through ads; this one being The Northern Home Furnishing (Bowerman and Son) furniture and appliance store. I love the photo of the Frigidaire automatic electric range. Note the thermal cooker on the stove-top. It was great for making soups and stews and always situated into the back left burner. Of course this was before electric crockpots and microwaves. (Photo courtesy of Mary Jayne Hallifax)
A reminder of a spring snow storm years ago and how my husband protected the windshield of his car. With him being co-owner of the local funeral home and ambulance service he would get called away at a moments notice and what better way to cut down on scrapping the windshield than utilizing the children’s snow saucers.
