60 years ago MARQUETTE — The Marquette & Huron Mountain Railway, an all-steam scenic line, was scheduled to resume operations today. Beset by financial problems, the railway had discontinued operations last year in its second season. However, Jerry Pulliam, executive vice president of the Marquette Chamber of Commerce, said he had been informed by operators of the line that it would resume daily trips, starting today. The schedule, Pulliam said, calls for trains to leave Marquette at 10:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. each day for a round trip to Harlow Lake, a run of about nine miles one way. He ...

60 years ago NEGAUNEE — Although a final contract covering salaries of teachers for the 1966-67 school year has not been signed, the Negaunee Board of Education has approved salaries for other employees of the school district. School officials indicated today that they were hopeful that a contract for teaching personnel would be signed within the next week. Between 300 and 400 picketers ringed the block around city hall and the police station.
