MARQUETTE - An escape try by a federal prisoner being held in the Marquette County Jail was discovered Saturday, Sheriff Adrian A Pequet reported this morning. Officers making a routine check found that Roy Waldo, Reed City, one of three federal prisoners awaiting trial in U.S. District Court here next month on charges of bank robbery, had cut a hole in the ceiling of his cell, using a piece of steel he had concealed in the sole of his shoe. According to Pequet, enlargement of the hole would have furnished Waldo access to the attic of the jail building and from there to the outside.

BIG BAY - The official closing yesterday of the Bay Cliff health camp brings to an end the third successful year of this project established for the purpose of "promoting the health, welfare, happiness and development of the children of the Upper Peninsula." The camp, sponsored by the Children's Fund of Michigan and an anonymous donor, was established in 1934 with an enrollment of 107 children. The camp property was formerly a model dairy farm which was not in operation after the closing of the mill at Big Bay in 1931. During 1934 and 1935, the property was rented from the owners, but this summer the property has been purchased outright and henceforth will be a permanent camp to which every summer 150 boys and girls of the Upper Peninsula can come for eight weeks of fun and wholesome, constructive living.
