Down memory LANE

I happened to come across a brochure from the Second Annual North American Snowmobile Championship races in Munising from probably the 1960’s. This race was very popular in the Midwest and Munising was hoping to become the snowmobile capital of the world. The 42-mile Grand Island Classic started at the courthouse in the center of town and traveled down Elm Avenue to the city dock and from there to Grand Island. The race was on the island itself and no doubt provided some great scenic views. (Photo courtesy of Mary Jayne Hallifax)
Munising also hosted a round North American Snowmobile Championship race in Wetmore, just east of town. As seen it was well attended. Exciting days!. (Photo courtesy of Mary Jayne Hallifax)
