Munising has become a popular tourist destination, drawing in over 1,3000,000 visitors in 2021 during the height of the pandemic. Of course, our main attraction is the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, 42 miles of picturesque rock formations, waterfalls and sand dunes from Munising to Grand Marais. The idea of creating this year-round wonderland along the lakshore wasn’t always always well received. Many were forced to unwillingly give up their homes, lakefront property and hunting cottages to the federal government without a say.
