‘Women Talking’ to be shown
ESCANABA — The Bay Film Series marks its 21st year celebrating the art of filmmaking, and this April is the last film of the series for the year.
At 7 p.m. on April 13, the BFS presents “Women Talking” (PG-13, 2022). The Oscar-winning drama directed by Sarah Polley is a story of an isolated religious community who are reconciling their reality with their faith.
The film is based on Miriam Toews’s 2018 novel which was in turn based on a true story of vicious serial rapes in an insular, ultraconservative Mennonite community in Bolivia. In this adaptation, we see a community of women come together to figure out how they might move forward together to build a better world for themselves and their children.
