Pre-election parade: Trump supporters hold event in Marquette on Sunday
MARQUETTE — Area residents who stand behind Republican President Donald Trump took a ride through Marquette Sunday to show their support for his re-election bid against Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden.
As over a dozen vehicles prepared to line up for a drive around Marquette from the former Shopko parking lot on McClellan Avenue, the “MAGA (Make America Great Again) Theme 2020”— which is set to the tune the 1978 hit YMCA by the Village People — could be heard over a loudspeaker.
Cars and trucks were decorated with a variety of flags, from “Blue Lives Matter” in honor of police officers, to those bearing messages such as “Women for Trump” “Keep America Great” and “All Aboard the Trump Train.”
Event organizer Danielle Walin said the ride was the result of a community effort to support the 45th U.S. President.
“These are all a lot of friends of mine, a lot of people I have met along this journey,” Walin said. “We are just getting together, have a good time. We are just going to drive around and show support for President Trump.”
A similar event starting from the same location was reportedly held on Oct. 11.
Walin said there may be more events prior to the Nov. 3. election.
“At this time we don’t have anything else planned,” Walin said. “But that will change, sometime in the future, I am sure.”
