Regional Fourth of July festivities announced

Several regional municipalities have announced their Independence Day festivities. The events to mark America’s 250th birthday are as follows:

MARQUETTE

The Marquette County Exchange Club will hold its 44th annual Freedom Fest from July 2-4 at Mattson Lower Harbor Park. Times for the event are as follows:

Thursday, July 2 — 4 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.

Friday, July 3 — noon to 10:30 p.m.

Saturday, July 4 — noon to 10:30 p.m.

The Marquette Kiwanis Club is once again sponsoring the city’s parade, which will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 4. The parade will begin at McClellan Avenue and West Washington Street. The parade theme is “One Nation Indivisible – 250 Years.”

The fireworks celebration will be held at dusk on Friday, July 3 at Mattson Lower Harbor Park. On Saturday, July 4, there will be a laser show, which is described as a Sensory-friendly alternative to traditional fireworks, at the ore dock.

Note that pets and outside carry-ins are not permitted in the park during the events. For more information, visit www.marquettefourth.com.

ISHPEMING

The Daryl Champion Kids Bike Parade will line up at 9:30 a.m., leaving at 9:45 a.m., and the community parade will begin at 10:30 a.m.

Other events include the annual alumni softball games, the Firecracker 5K Fun Run and 1K walk. Registration will be held from 7-8 a.m. on July 4, and the race will start at 8:15 a.m.

The community picnic begins at noon at Al Quaal Recreation Area and the fireworks display will begin at dusk.

NEGAUNEE

Negaunee’s Pioneer Days will be held from July 3-11. Alumni softball games will begin on July 3. Visit Negauneeirontown.org for more information on the schedule.

The Negaunee City Band will hold a concert at 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 8 at the Negaunee Band Shell.

The Pioneer Princess Pageant will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 9 at the Negaunee High School Auditorium.

On Saturday, July 11, the Irontown Fun Run and walk will begin at 8:30 a.m., and the Pioneer Days Parade is set to line up at 10:30 a.m. at the Negaunee Senior Center, with the parade kicking off at 11:30 a.m.

There will be live music and a beer tent from 2-7 p.m. at the Old Town Park, and fireworks display will begin at dusk over Teal Lake.

GWINN

Gwinn Fourth of July celebration will begin on Friday, July 3 with a street dance hosted by the Gwinn VFW. The event will begin at 6 p.m. at Peter Nordeen Park and will feature music and food.

On Saturday, July 4, the kids bike parade will like up at 9 a.m. at Gilbert Elementary School.

The main parade will begin at 10 a.m., traveling from Gilbert to Gwinn High School.

Following the parade, there will be festivities at Peter Nordeen Park featuring games, food vendors, and a bean bag tournament until the afternoon street dance kicks off.

At dusk, the Forsyth Township Fire Department will hold a fireworks display.

MICHIGAMME

Michigamme will hold its annual fireworks display on Friday, July 3 at the roadside park, featuring music and food. On Saturday, July 4, the Michigamme parade will begin at 11 a.m.
