Negaunee City Band announces concert program

NEGAUNEE — Director Lucas Wickstrom has chosen to celebrate the music of Leroy Anderson during this Wednesday’s (July 15) concert to be held at 7:30 p.m. at the Outdoor Performing Arts Center at the east end of Iron Street. The concert will also feature tuba player, Chris Adams, performing “Solo Pomposo.” The program begins with a Sousa march, “New York Hippodrome,” named after a famous old theater where Sousa’s band played their longest single engagement in 1915 and 1916. Anonymous donor establishes two endowment funds to preserve Calumet landmarks

HANCOCK – Two of Calumet’s historic landmarks now have permanent sources of support thanks to the generosity of an anonymous donor who has established the Copper Country Firefighters Memorial Museum Building Preservation Fund and the Calumet Theatre Building Preservation Fund at the Keweenaw Community Foundation.  The new endowment funds were created to help preserve the buildings that house the Copper Country Firefighters History Museum and the historic Calumet Theatre, ensuring these community-owned landmarks remain part of Calumet’s landscape for generations to come. NMU business growth drives new campus investment

MARQUETTE — Northern Michigan University has secured $13 million in state funding toward a $23 million project to relocate its College of Business to a new addition in the Hedgcock Building. Iron Ore Heritage Trail expansion strengthens Marquette County recreation

MARQUETTE — Several projects are planned along the Iron Ore Heritage Trail this summer, including an extension of over four miles in Chocolay Township that will put the trail to just over 50 miles. The extension will improve the existing corridor from Kawbawgam Road to Lakenenland Sculpture Park with a crushed aggregate surface and a new parking area to improve access from the east end of the trail.
