MARQUETTE — Five Northern Michigan University students selected for Anna and Rich Lundin Honors Summer Research Fellowships will give presentations on their projects during a virtual symposium from 5-6 p.m. Monday. Through donor support, the NMU Honors Program is able to award fellows $5,000 to conduct research alongside a faculty member, focusing on a particular area of their respective major or minor.

The students who will present during the symposium, along with their faculty mentors and project titles, are:

≤ Eli Bieri and Biology Professor Jill Leonard: “Assessing Road Mortality in Ambystomatid Salamander Species in the Marquette Area.”

≤ Mary DeBona and Earth, Environmental and Geographical Sciences Professor Norma Froelich: “Breaking Through: Using Pancake Ice to Monitor Climate Change in Marquette, Michigan.”

≤ Emma Drever and English Professor David Wood: “Shakespeare and the Law: Lucrece and Rhetoric.”

≤ Jakob Lippert and Languages, Literature and International Studies Professor Anna Zimmer: “‘Es wird alles wieder gut’: Reconstructing Gender for a Post-Nazi Society in the Heimatfilme of 1950’s Germany”

≤ Daisy Lupa and Political Science Professor Carter Wilson: “The Means to Match Their Hatred: An Examination of Islamophobic Rhetoric in State of the Union Addresses.”
