SAULT STE. MARIE – The Lake Superior State University Arts Center is proud to present SYREN Modern Dance in a one-night-only performance of “At the Table: Humanity at the Dawn of AI” at 7 p.m. Friday.
Based in New York City, SYREN Modern Dance is an internationally recognized professional dance company with more than 20 years of experience bringing innovative movement work to communities around the globe. Honored as a United States Cultural Ambassador, SYREN has spent the past decade developing its Science in Motion programming, transforming complex scientific ideas into powerful, physical storytelling that bridges the gap between science and the arts.
In “At the Table,” choreographer Kate Sutter leads five company members through nine distinct sections set to an original score by composer Lauren Cregor. The work explores the rapidly evolving presence of artificial intelligence in our daily lives, examining themes such as machine learning, emotional responses to emerging technologies, the influence of media, and the hope embedded in scientific discovery.
In a world where artificial intelligence is a constant presence, “At the Table” asks a simple yet profound question: What if, instead of pulling away, we chose to pull up a chair?
With curiosity and nuance, the piece invites audiences to engage with AI not as something separate, but as part of a shared human journey. Rather than offering definitive answers, SYREN seeks to open space for reflection, encouraging viewers to consider how we collectively shape the future of technology and, in turn, ourselves. The performance features dancers Jules Assue, Alice Chacon, Rivkins Christopher, Lynn Peterson, and Roxanne Potes.
This one-night-only performance will take place at the LSSU Arts Center. Tickets are $15 for general audiences and $5 for children ages 10 and under.
Tickets and additional information are available through the LSSU Arts Center.
