This is one of my favorite photos and I call it “midnight snack.” I had made an apple pie that day in our apartment over the Candy Kitchen Restaurant in Munising and about midnight, I caught my husband Richard making his way to the refrigerator. It was a cozy small apartment where the one bedroom was turned into a dark room and we slept on a hide-a-bed in the living room. It was kind of fun living deep in the heart of Munising in the late 1940s.
This is a photo of The Munising News staff from probably the 1950s, which was located in the lower level of the building, now occupied by the Interpretive Center on Munising Avenue. I cannot recall the name of the gentleman in the middle, but starting from the left is Charles Symons, Mr. Sadak, Wally Ahlborn and Ed Bashaw.
This is a photo I did not take myself since I wasn’t around in 1911, but shows the Sam Marks Store, which is now occupied by Gallery Coffee. It later became Denman’s Department Store, which was a popular place to buy the latest fashions and I did have a photo display of my work near the door entrance, inside of course. I remember changing the display weekly and there were frequently people watching to see what pictures were being posted that week.
