Down memory LANE

with Mary Jayne

Pictured are the days when logging was vital to the economy in Alger County, maybe even more so than today. Wow! Look at the size of those logs and men proudly standing next to their Chevrolet trucks. This shows a great days work by the Wayne Knuttila Logging Company I’m guessing in the 1950s or ’60s. A notable business on the main drag in Munising years ago was Leach’s Bar. Adjacent to the bar was a dance hall and I have to wonder if the wood floor is the same as back then. Since then this building changed ownership many times: Ohlen’s, Apple Betty’s, Sylvester’s, etc. and now houses the famous Falling Rock Café and Bookstore. A lot of great memories for Munising residents past and present. (Photo courtesy of Mary Jayne Hallifax)
Many of us older folks will remember lining our cabinets and drawers with Marvalon produced right here in Munising at The Munising Paper Company (Kimberly Clark). I will bet that half of the residents in Munising have Marvalon somewhere in their kitchen or shelving throughout the house. This is a collection of product I purchased back in the day and wished I would have kept it so neatly stored as pictured. (Photo courtesy of Mary Jayne Hallifax)
