Down memory LANE

Sacred Heart Church in Munising was dedicated in June 1950 under the direction of the Rev. Gerald Harrington. The steeple itself was replaced in 1972 due to ice problems. Here you see a crane lifting the new structure and note the man in the middle. Of course, this was an attraction for a lot of Munising residents and something to remember. Living in town, I clearly benefit from hearing church bells and music throughout the day at designated times. Lovely! (Photo by Mary Jayne Hallifax)
I’m not certain of the year this parade picture was taken but by the looks of the firetruck and car at the back of the parade I’m guessing the late 1950s or early 1960s. The annual clean up day parade brought out the youngsters with brooms and buckets as an initiation to summer (or possibly a ploy to get out of the classroom for the afternoon). This was when Elm Avenue was truly Elm Avenue by the looks of those beautiful trees. (Photo by Mary Jayne Hallifax)
When Blaney Park used to be a really classy place to visit, this is a photo of the swimming pool I took there which was a legendary spot for celebrities and the wealthy in the 1930s, 1940s and 1950s. My husband and I would occasionally pass by there (rather enviously) on our way to Lower Michigan to visit relatives. (Photo by Mary Jayne Hallifax)
