Toys For Tots off and running

To the Journal editor: It is that time of year again, the Marine Corps League Lake Superior Detachment 764 is starting its annual Toys For Tots campaign for Marquette County. We are all volunteer U.S. Marine Corps veterans helping collect new-unwrapped toys or monetary donations for the less fortunate children in Marquette County. All of the donations and toys stay in Marquette County and monetary donations collected are used to purchase toys from local businesses in the county. To the Journal editor: After 36 years of driving around the City of Marquette, I had one of my worst moments ever. Just a few days ago. Right in downtown. In the middle of the day, the area was busy with walkers, bicyclists, and oncoming traffic. As I headed north on North Lakeshore Boulevard on a cloudy day, I went by the Iron Bay Restaurant & Drinkery, moving along at firm 21 mph. To the Journal editor: The Lake Superior Fiber Festival on Sept. 16 was truly a community event that was of interest to a variety of ages and showcased several fiber arts. The natural beauty of our area seems to inspire various art groups. The fiber arts grew out of necessity over a long history in a wide range of cultures.
