To the Journal editor: I recently received a political mailer from our Lansing house representative, Jenn Hill. In the mailer, Rep. Hill exclaims how much money Senate Bill 271 will be saving Michiganders with the 2035 goal for Michigan to use only”clean” energy. This is just 12 years from now and Michigan currently generates about 25% renewable energy. This is purely a slight of hand, now you see it, now you don’t by Rep. Backing Gwinn bond issue

To the Journal editor: On Tuesday, Nov. 7, voters in the Gwinn Area School District will vote on a $45.55 million dollar bond to be paid back over 30 years. This is a critical vote regarding the near- and long-term future of Gwinn Schools. I strongly encourage all voters to vote yes on the bond proposal. My reasons for strongly supporting a yes vote include financial justifications, potential to improve student learning and proficiency, and enhanced safety and security for all students, grades K-12. Event a success

To the Journal editor: The Marquette County Crop Hunger Walk was held on Oct. 1. The day was warm and 30 people walked around the Northern Michigan University campus. The Crop Walk did raise $5,995.00, of which 25% will stay local and go to the St. Vincent De Paul food bank and the NMU food bank. We would like to thank our sponsor, the Marquette Food Co-op and thanks to all the churches that collected funds and all the people that walked to remind people of food insecurity in our area.

To the Journal editor: I would like to comment on the article written by Sterling Schultz regarding the proposed location for the new Jacobetti veterans’ facility. My husband is a Vietnam veteran. He was in-country from 1967 through 1968. During that time, he inhaled a good dose of Agent Orange. Since then he has suffered two bouts with cancer: one in 1983 with Hodgkin’s disease where his spleen was removed and 6 months of chemotherapy left him unable to father children; and a recent bout with prostate cancer took his prostate and scars from radiation therapy.
