To the Journal editor: Two months of baited deer blinds really works in the wolf’s favor. The wolf only has to find a blind that is chumming, in deer, on a steady basis. Twice I witnessed a situation where a doe came into my bait, while bow hunting. When a wolf shot out of his hiding spot, toward the doe, shocking both the doe and me, the doe was visibly shaken, as it took off running, with the wolf in hot pursuit. To the Journal editor: Some words of encouragement to start out the year 2024. Not much winter weather so far, only a little snow and soon days will be getting longer. By (this time) at least an hour or so of more daylight. We are now heading into spring rather than winter. Some good advice — don’t watch the news too much. It’s mostly bad. Try to get out when you can, even if it’s not cold. Wear warm clothes. Also, phone or visit family and friends instead of texting or emailing. Most health magazines I get say to do that. To the Journal editor: I would like to send a huge shout out to 906 Warriors.There are so many organizations that are there to help war veterans, it is very rewarding to see an organization recognize veterans that spend 20+ years on standby for their country and help them in their time of need. To the Journal editor: Thanks to many in the Ishpeming area, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul (SVdP) — St. John and St. Joseph Conference’s annual Christmas basket distribution was a huge success! One hundred twenty-three Ishpeming-area households (275 people), including 25 families with 34 school-aged children, received Christmas baskets. This year, local individuals and the Prayer Shawl ministry utilized their talents to crochet/knit nearly 290 washcloths that were given out to each family.
