To the Journal editor: I had the pleasure of dining at the Delft (recently). Not only did I enjoy the fabulous food and great service, but it also got me thinking about the owner, Jen Ray. She and her husband have invested in downtown, preserving historic buildings and creating businesses. The wedding and birthday announcements on the landmark Delft marquee make our town feel personal and friendly for both residents and visitors. Be respectable

To the Journal editor: I live on White Avenue in Ishpeming. I feed birds and I get beautiful birds. You can’t let dogs run, so it should also include cats. I have found dead birds who are being killed by cats, and I know those cats because I and also a neighbor have seen them sitting by my bird feeder. They should keep their cats indoors. They should also show some respect for their neighbors. I don’t let my dogs run to do their jobs in other yards. We fence (our dogs) so they can’t run. Our changing times

To the Journal editor: Just some things about how times have changed. Think of the technology changes. Most calls one gets is a recording and not a real person and the use of computers, cell phones, etc. is the going way. An article in the Washington Post tells of a 15 year old girl sent and received 6,473 cell phone text messages in a single month. She said more or less she could not live without it. To the Journal editor: The board of Camp New Day U.P. would like to take this opportunity to thank all the people and organizations that have supported our 2023 summer camp. It was our best camp yet with 27 marvelous campers from across the Upper Peninsula supported by 15 great counselors and staff members. The campers were all very excited to be at camp and didn’t let the rainy weather discourage them. Everyone had a wonderful time. To the Journal editor: I have enjoyed being a subscriber to our local Mining Jounal for years, but recently the passing of a celebrity — important to our region — was either deemed not newsworthy or it somehow slipped through the cracks. I am referring to the death of the great singer-songwriter Gordon Lightfoot. He passed away May 1 and I only found out weeks later from Time Magazine. Lightfoot not only performed several times in the Upper Peninsula, but he wrote what has become a sort of anthem to our local culture: “The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald.” Before recording ...

To the Journal editor: Anyone who professes faith in God, and His Son Jesus Christ, will at some point (more than once) be confronted with, “How can you believe that stuff? The Bible is so old, people and culture have changed so much that that stuff is simply out of date! It’s irrelevant!” Well, for openers, I grant some issues the Bible does not address: Will it help me ride my bicycle any better? Will the windows on my house be any cleaner?
