Whelan, Harvala take part in nationals

MARQUETTE - PEAK weightlifters Lea Whelan and Morgan Harvala participated at the USA Weightlifting Youth Nationals from June 24-26 in Austin, Texas.Whelan finished 11th overall with a 99-kilogram (217.8 pounds) in the 14-15-year-ld 58 kg (127.9 lbs.) division.Harvala finished 15th with a 120 kg total (264 lbs.) in the 16-17-year-old 75-plus kg (165.3 lbs.) division.Both girls set personal records at the meet. Upper Peninsula boys basketball career scoring leader Gage Kreski, left, of St. Ignace met former scoring king Dominic "Duke" Jacobetti Jr. of Negaunee St. Paul on June 18 before the 31st annual U.P.
