Taekwon-Do students advance

Two students from the Marquette Taekwon-Do School recently earned their Fifth Dan black belt in Broomfield, Colorado. Heidi Spiessl of Lansing, left, and Hilija Spiessl of Champion, right, stand with their instructor, Steve Osborne of Cadillac. The Spiessls completed four years of training, obtained a USTF Class A Referee certificate, a USTF Class B Instructor certificate and performed 20 hours of community service. State qualifier, double-points races held last weekend

MARQUETTE - Kayce Mullett and Sam Leow have been named the Superiorland Kiwanis Athletes of the Month for May at Marquette Senior High School.Mullett, a four-year member of the varsity girls soccer team, was captain of the Redettes who finished their season on an 11-game unbeaten streak this spring.She also was a standout athlete in volleyball, earning All-Great Northern Conference honors and being named to the Michigan Interscholastic Volleyball Coaches Association All-Region team.Mullett also played hockey and basketball through her sophomore year before deciding to focus more on ...
