MARQUETTE – PEAK weightlifters Lea Whelan and Morgan Harvala participated at the USA Weightlifting Youth Nationals from June 24-26 in Austin, Texas.

Whelan finished 11th overall with a 99-kilogram (217.8 pounds) in the 14-15-year-ld 58 kg (127.9 lbs.) division.

Harvala finished 15th with a 120 kg total (264 lbs.) in the 16-17-year-old 75-plus kg (165.3 lbs.) division.

Both girls set personal records at the meet. They were also the only girls from Michigan in their groups.
