Annie Pietila leads Northern Michigan University women golfers at Ohio meet
FINDLAY, Ohio — Annie Pietila shot a three-day total of 236 to finish tied for 24th place and lead the Northern Michigan University women’s golf team at the William Beall Classic hosted by the former GLIAC member University of Findlay.
The Wildcats totaled 989 for the three rounds played Monday and Tuesday to finish 16th of 17 teams in a field that included multiple current and former GLIAC schools.
Grand Valley State won the team title with 898, three strokes ahead of host Findlay.
Pietila put together rounds of 79, 77 and 80. Freshman Hailey Bolander finished tied for 66th with 250 after she shot the Wildcats’ best opening round of 77, then added 88 and 85.
Also for NMU, Paxton Johnson had 81-88-82–251 to tie for 69th, Maya Hunter 87-86-79–252 to tie for 72nd and Payton Dube 93-92-93–278 to finish 91st.
Some of their highlights included Johnson making two birdies and Bolander one during the first round, Pietila going 1-under-par on her back nine in the second round, and Hunter making a birdie in the third round.
The NMU women join their male counterparts to finish the autumn season at the GLIAC Fall Preview on Oct. 15-16 in downstate Augusta.
