Marquette Redmen baseball team splits in Norway against Knights
NORWAY — The Marquette Senior High School baseball team left Norway with a doubleheader split on Thursday after an 8-1 victory in Game 1 and a 4-1 defeat in Game 2.
The Redmen were powered in Game 1 by Hunter Doucette’s three-run homer and a strong performance on the mound by junior Blake Henriksen.
Henriksen went the full six innings, allowing one run and five hits while fanning seven Norway batters with issuing no walks.
The Redmen scored three runs in the third and five more in the top of the sixth to all but put the game away for good.
Marquette’s Peter VandenAvond added an RBI and scored twice, while Henriksen went 1 for 2 with a double.
In the nightcap, it was Norway who had the upper hand.
Each team scored a run in the first inning while Norway busted out for three runs in the bottom of the third.
VandenAvond went 1 for 3 with the lone run scored.
Marquette travels to Gladstone for a doubleheader at 4 p.m. today.
