Pitcher Grace Nardi twirls no-hitter for Negaunee Miners girls softball team past Marquette Sentinels in 15-0 victory on Friday

MARQUETTE — Negaunee pitcher Grace Nardi shut down the Marquette offense on Friday afternoon at Lions Field in Chocolay Township, leading the Miners to a five-inning, 15-0 victory as the Miners improved their record to — yes, it’s a coincidence — 15-0 on that day.

Nardi tossed a no-hitter while striking out 11 and walking three in her five innings.

She also got plenty of hitting support as Negaunee pounded out 11 hits, including a 4-for-4 day by Kallen Schultz, who counted two doubles in her collection while she also had two RBIs.

Nardi also knocked in two runs, while teammate Miya Frederickson, Brielle Anderson, Theresa Anderson and Alyssa Borlace each had hits.

Freshman Charlye Swajanen took the pitching loss for the Sentinels as she threw four innings, allowing nine runs — but only three earned — on seven hits and seven walks as she fanned five.

CeCe Fuller pitched an inning of relief, allowing six runs on four hits.

The Miners jumped out right away with a Nardi RBI single in the first inning followed up by five more runs in the top of the second.

Negaunee traveled to Escanaba to face varied competition, including from the Lower Peninsula, on Saturday.
