Memorial Day meaning has been forgotten

To the Journal editor: My grandfather was a member of the famous 32nd Red Arrow Division of World War I made up of Upper Michigan and Wisconsin National Guardsman. He was wounded in Belgium. My father was in the Army-Air Corps in World War II stationed in China-Burma and India all during the war. My brother is a Vietnam era veteran. So the pending celebration of Memorial Day often sends me to that quiet place where I ponder the ultimate sacrifice of many veterans and families. What was it like for a young man, with young children, to answer the call to fight for freedom? How ...

Loved his birthday party

To the Journal editor: A big thank you to Mary L’Huiller, Katherine Russel and Jan Sabin for planning and organizing my 90th birthday celebration party. All activities were open to parents as they gave individual help to ...

Needs help now

To the Journal editor: I’m 75 years old with a heart condition and I have COPD bad. I am on oxygen. They said my driveway, 31 years old, was the cause of the road to give way. Everybody knows it wasn’t. I wish I had someone’s cell number to send a picture.

Only Lincoln, who financed a civil war, and George W. Bush, who paid for wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, had larger debts relative to the size of the U.S. economy. Republicans and Democrats raised the nation’s debt ceiling three times during the Trump administration. The national debt is money ...

Find God’s way

To the Journal editor: Have you ever heart the saying “let there be light”? God said that in the beginning of creation. Just think we all know about darkness with the time change. It’s light for an hour longer in the evening. Just think of light for only a few hours that would be better than total darkness. Life would not continue. No sun to have the crops grow for food and not being able to even see anything. That’s only a start. So with that be thankful for God saying “let there be light” and what a gift. And then with Easter happening last month, it was time to ...
