Bergman just plain wrong

To the Journal editor: Representative Jack Bergman has recently sent a statement about Donald Trump’s agenda to us from Louisiana, where he lives most of the time. Bergman, you may recall, was one of only 16 members of Congress who voted to nullify the results of the 2020 election after the January 6 riot at the Capitol. Representative Bergman is exhorting Republicans to support Donald Trump’s agenda. He states that Trump’s agenda is to “secure our borders, restore the economy, and put America first once again”. To the Journal editor: Marquette Kiwanis Club is pleased to announce that Peggy and Peter Frazier of Marquette, who have given so much to the community, have been selected as parade marshals for the 2026 July 4th Parade. Peggy and Peter have sponsored the Lake Superior Theater from their boat house and have conducted the July 4th Boat Parade for many years. To the Journal editor: What’s up with Jack Bergman? For years, his press releases primarily concerned themselves with issues affecting our district, things that should be a core responsibility of a congressional representative regardless of party. Nothing too controversial.  But a May 22 Mining Journal article highlights a recent Bergman post that suddenly acknowledged his support of the America First and MAGA movements. And even more disquieting, it provided strong evidence that he would rather do the bidding of President Donald Trump than to represent the people of his district. ...

To the Journal editor: I recently had the opportunity to go on the Upper Peninsula Honor Flight and wow, what an experience that was. I am a Vietnam U.S. Army combat veteran who served from 1971 to 1973. Each of us had a guardian and I chose my daughter who lives nearby (spouses not permitted). Climate change real

I'm a meteorologist with two degrees in atmospheric science. The great majority of the most qualified scientists in my field believe human-caused greenhouse gas emissions and other short-sighted, irresponsible actions like mass deforestation are responsible for a dangerous global warming/climate change that is causing many more extreme weather events and that urgent action is necessary to avoid the worst impacts. Since trees effectively draw the greenhouse gas carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, maintaining healthy forests would be one effective way to help slow this climate change. The ...
