Giving Thanks

To the Journal editor:

Here we are in the month of November. I want to mention a couple of important days.

Nov. 11 was Veterans Day, so to all my fellow veterans, Happy Vets Day. We served our country with honor and protected our freedom. I hope the people of not only Michigan, but the whole U.S.A., remember that freedom is not free.

Many gave their lives. Others also became disabled.

We served in many places in the world in wars and peacetime, so just a thank you from the people. We are grateful you did that. And thanks to The Mining Journal. It also remembers Veterans Day.

The other important day is Thanksgiving Day. It’s the day to be thankful for many blessings the Lord has blessed us with.

One has to realize that as we gather with family, think of not only spouses, children, brothers, sisters and others, but a decent home, some food on the table and in the cold parts of our country, a warm home when the cold weather comes.

Finally, what I hope we will all be thankful for is our country to come back and follow the way God intended, like telling the truth. Have different opinions but not violence. Killing people, as most of us realize, is what’s going on and the news media has mostly bad news. How about some good stories?

Not much is said about asking God in prayer for people to love and help one another. I hope it will be the new way, and if not, it could get worse in times ahead.

So hope, not only on Thanksgiving Day but beyond, for a better U.S.A. for us all, but we all have to do our part.

God’s blessings,

WILLIAM P. MAKI
