Backing Lorinser for seat

To the Journal editor:

In a recent mailing I received from Jack Bergman, he uses the tagline “Political Outsider.” He has been a congressman since 2017, so I wonder why he portrays himself as a political outsider.

Does “Political Outsider” mean that he lives outside our district? A lot of people who live in the Upper Peninsula believe that his property in Watersmeet is not a year-round residence and he has spent more time at a home he owns in Louisiana.

Perhaps he is a “Political Outsider” because he receives money from industries and special interests located outside our district and gives their issues priority over of the needs of his constituents here.

Maybe “Political Outsider” means that his values are outside the mainstream and do not actually represent most of the people of his district. For example, he voted against legislation that would help people in the Upper Peninsula, such as the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. He also voted against making insulin affordable.

“Political Outsider” could describe his radical politics, such as his vote not to certify the Electoral College results for the 2020 presidential election, or his position on abortion.

Whatever he means by calling himself a “Political Outsider,” I am ready for a change. I want a representative who lives and works inside our district, whose values are inside the mainstream of our community, who can reach across the aisle to get things done inside our Congress, supports legislation that will improve the lives of people inside Michigan, and shows honesty and integrity in words and deeds. That’s why I’m voting for Dr. Bob Lorinser for Congress.

Starting at $3.23/week.
