Hancock to fix sewer lines

HANCOCK — The Hancock City Council met Wednesday and approved several financial commitments to the upcoming water and sewer project on the north side of town. More than $800,000 was pledged by the city to tear up and fix sewer lines on South Lincoln Drive, Elevation Street, Second Street and Prospect Street. City Manager Mary Babcock explained the logistics saying the project will include completely tearing up one street, replacing its pipes and re-paving it. Dickinson accepts regional plan for public defenders

IRON MOUNTAIN — Dickinson, Iron and Delta counties will receive a state grant to form a regional organization to provide attorneys for indigent defendants. The goal is to improve services and reduce administrative overhead. Each county now receives an individual Michigan Indigent Defense Commission grant, but it's hoped that a tri-county system will make a larger pool of attorneys available to represent defendants.
