The Michigamme River covered County Road L.G. in seven places this morning that were passable only by truck. In some places, the road, also known as River Road, was 3 feet deep. 30 years ago MUNISING — Alger Underwater Preserve officials are soliciting reservations to attend the June 1 sinking of the tugboat Steven Selvick in Munising Bay. The tugboat is being sunk as a dive attraction for the preserve, the first such event in state history. A tour boat from Pictured Rocks Cruises in Munising will be used to bring attendees to the sinking location. 30 years ago NEGAUNEE — Television weatherman Karl Bohnak will return to his old running grounds when he carries the Olympic torch next month in Milwaukee. “It’s exciting I ran back in my high school days in Milwaukee and to go back there and carry the Olympic torch is really neat,” said Bohnak, WLUC TV-6 meteorologist for eight years. The 8:30 a.m. event at city hall is one of several events today kicking off the city’s year-long centennial celebration.
