MARQUETTE -- The Upper Peninsula was the only major job market in the state to show a decrease in unemployment for the June, the Michigan Employment Security Commission said. Job seekers in search of summer employment helped to increase the unemployment rate in most areas, MESC Director F. Robert Edwards said.

MARQUETTE -- Secluded in Upper Michigan's north woods on the rugged Marquette Range is the home of one of the area's pioneer families. "Deertrack" has 12 acres of woods and fields in a complete natural state and it has been awarded a medal by the Michigan Horticultural Society for preservation of many varieties of flora. The house designed by Frank Lloyd Wright and was built for Abby Beecher Roberts. She was the only living daughter of John Munro Long year, one of the early developers of the Marquette area.
