UTV accident injures girl, age 15

ISHPEMING — A 15-year-old girl was injured in a utility terrain vehicle crash that took place early Tuesday evening.

The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office reported that it was dispatched to the area of North Lake Road near Prospect Street in Ishpeming Township at 5:31 p.m. on a report of a four-wheeler UTV accident with possible serious injuries.

A UTV four-wheeler, designed for only one rider, had two passengers while being driven over a dirt mound on the side of the road. The driver lost control, with one of the passengers, a 15-year-old female from Ishpeming, thrown from the vehicle and struck by the same UTV. The UTV then flipped onto its side.

The female was transported to UP Health System-Marquette for treatment of serious injuries. No occupants were wearing helmets while on the UTV. Names were not released.

Deputies were assisted on the scene by UPHS-Bell and the Ishpeming Township Fire Department.
