Victim ID’d in fatal stabbing, suspect denied bond

MARQUETTE — The Marquette Police Department has identified the victim of a fatal stabbing on Sunday as Patrick Allen Parker, 61, of Marquette.

Parker died at UP Health System – Marquette on Sunday.

The suspect in the stabbing, 39-year-old Curtis John Contois of Marquette, was lodged in the Marquette County Jail Sunday after being apprehended by officers with the Marquette Police Department around 10:30 that morning. He was lodged on a charge of homicide – open murder, a felony that carries a term of life in prison, police said.

Contois was arraigned in the 96th District Court on Monday and was referred for a competency evaluation, court documents state.

Contois, who was denied bond, remains lodged in jail.

The charge stems from an incident that police responded to around 1 a.m. Sunday along the 200 block of Furnace Street in Marquette. Contois had reportedly fled the scene before police located him later that morning, police said previously.

A future court date for Contois had not yet been set as of Tuesday afternoon, court records showed.
