Charles Alexander “Chuck” Bergdahl

SKANDIA TWP, MI – Charles Alexander “Chuck” Bergdahl, age 88, of Skandia, passed away peacefully at his home on April 17, 2026, in the loving care of his family and the compassionate caregivers of UP Home Health and Hospice.

Born in Marquette on July 14, 1937, the son of Arvid and Clara (Olsen) Bergdahl, Chuck was raised in Skandia and was a lifelong member of the community. His family owned Bergdahl’s Farm in Skandia, and from a young age, he worked alongside his brothers, learning the value of hard work and dedication. He graduated from Graveraet High School with the Class of 1955.

Following high school, Chuck attended Michigan State University before enlisting in the United States Navy, where he served as an aircraft mechanic. During his four years of service, he was stationed in various parts of Texas. Just prior to his honorable discharge, he married the love of his life, Wanda Turner, on May 4, 1962. He was honorably discharged on March 4, 1963, and the couple returned to Skandia, where Chuck resumed work on the family farm, becoming a proud third-generation farmer.

Over the years, the Bergdahl family business grew and diversified. Chuck was a tireless worker, balancing the demands of farming with running the well-known Bergdahl business.

In addition to his work, Chuck was deeply committed to his community. He served for over 20 years on the Marquette County Commission and was involved with numerous boards and organizations, including the Michigan Economic Development Corporation Partnership Committee, the Marquette County Land Bank, Planning Commission, Forestry Commission, Marquette County Fair Board, U.P. State Fair Board, Soil and Water Conservation District Board, the ASCS Board, the Farm Bureau Board and the Chamber of Commerce Board. He was also a strong supporter of the 4-H program and local youth. Chuck was instrumental in the establishment of the Marquette County Fairgrounds, and his efforts helped ensure the continuation of the Marquette County Fair.

Chuck was known for his strong work ethic, his devotion to family, and his deep sense of community. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, sharing stories, and visiting with others, especially when he found a common connection. He seemed to know people everywhere and never missed an opportunity for a good conversation. He enjoyed being outdoors most of all whether logging in the woods with his team of Belgians or using them for hayrides or sleigh rides with family and friends. Over the years he guided many groups including elementary students, politicians and even visitors from other countries around the farm, sharing his knowledge of agriculture and farm life. He was actively working on the farm cutting the entire hay crop of nearly 600 acres at the age of 88 and looking forward to this years hay season.

He is survived by his children, John Charles “Chuck” (Patti) Bergdahl of Skandia and Karla (Christopher) Kamrada of Palm Harbor, Florida; grandchildren, Courtney, Nick, and Cassidy Kamrada, Samantha (Ken) DuVall, and John Bergdahl; great-grandchildren, Landon and River DuVall; his brother, John (Linda) Bergdahl; sister-in-law, Kay Bergdahl; many nieces and nephews; special friend, Kay Wagner; and Ranger his Border Collie.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Wanda; and his three brothers, Don (Jeanne) Bergdahl, Paul (Marlene) Bergdahl, Dave Bergdahl and his many canine companions over the years.

Honoring Chuck’s wishes, no public services will be held.
