Marquette police update New Year’s Day stabbing; Ewen man arraigned
MARQUETTE – An Ontonagon County man was arraigned Friday morning on charges related to an alleged stabbing early New Year’s Day in Marquette.
Casey Brian Kallio, 26, of Ewen was arraigned in Marquette County District Court on one count of assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder, and one count of malicious destruction of personal property between $200 and $1,000.
According to the Marquette City Police Department, a report came in at about 12:11 a.m. Thursday of a stabbing in an alley south of West Washington Street’s 400 block, between Fifth and Seventh streets.
The incident resulted in a man being transported to the hospital for injuries and a suspect being jailed, according to a police department news release.
Police declined to name the victim, his age or where he is from.
However, according to court records, Kallio allegedly stabbed Christopher Koory, although no age or address were available from the court, either.
Koory was transported to UP Health System – Marquette for his injuries and was treated and released, according to the hospital Community Relations Department.
According to the news release, an initial police investigation indicated Kallio had stabbed Koory in the abdomen after Koory had confronted Kallio for slashing a vehicle tire.
Police said Kallio remained at the scene and was arrested without incident.
He is lodged at the Marquette County Jail on a $100,000 cash surety bond for the assault charge and $5,000 cash surety bond for the destruction of property charge.
A preliminary examination for Kallio is scheduled for for 3 p.m. Jan. 15 in District Court.
