NMU’s Yoder marks milestone win

WEATHERFORD, Okla. – Northern Michigan University head coach Dominic Yoder had a special night Thursday as he picked up his 200th career win and his 175th as Wildcats’ head coach in the team’s season opener.

NMU swept Southwestern Oklahoma in three sets, 25-21, 28-26, 25-20, after the Bulldogs won a team record 22 matches and the Great American Conference tournament last season.

Bridget Bussell led the Wildcats with 11 kills, while Madison Whitehead had five blocks and Megan Dahl 20 digs.

After taking the first set, Northern withstood two set points with the help of kills by Megan Crane and Marta Fraga Guntin before clinching it on a kill by Kayla Chosa.

In the third set, the Wildcats fought back from being down five points to take an 11-10 lead and stayed ahead for the remainder of the set.

NMU competes in the Lady Buff Classic in Canyon, Texas, today. After playing Eastern New Mexico this morning, the Wildcats take on host West Texas A&M at 8 p.m.
