NEW YORK – An incoming Northern Michigan University freshman hockey player was recently invited to an NHL development camp.

Defense Rylan Yaremko was one of 31 players invited to the New York Rangers camp at the Madison Square Garden Training Center June 27-July 1.

Yaremko previously played for the West Kelowna Warriors of the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL) and won the RBC Cup, Western Canada Cup and Fred Page Cup. During the RBC Cup, he helped the Warriors notch their first Junior A National Championship with two goals and two assists over the course of six games.

In the BCHL playoffs, Yaremko picked up seven points during 24 games and helped West Kelowna upset the Penticton Vees to win their first Interior Division title.

In his career with the Warriors, Yaremko earned 51 points and had 34 points this past season over the course of 56 games.

Northern opens its 2016-17 season with an exhibition game against the University of Victoria Oct. 2 at the Berry Events Center. The Wildcats first series of the year will be against Wisconsin Oct. 7-8 in Green Bay.
