Mike Devine ready to defend Marquette Golf Club senior golf title

MARQUETTE — Fifteen men made it through qualifying rounds last weekend and will join defending champion Mike Devine for two divisions of the Marquette Golf Club’s Men’s Senior Club Championship this weekend.

Eight will engage in match play in the “regular” Senior Division with the other eight in the Super Senior Division, all played on the club’s Greywalls course.

Devine is seeded No. 1 in the Senior Division, followed by top qualifier Robert Luke, who shot an 18-hole score of 76 at Greywalls.

Luke was followed by Rob Carlson and Tom Robinson, each with 77, Phil Johnson and Kenn Hruska, both with 78, Scott Erickson with 79 and Greg Ward with 81.

Devine faces Ward and Robinson faces off against Johnson in the upper bracket, while it’s Luke vs. Erickson and Carlson vs. Hruska in the lower bracket.

The championship match is scheduled for about 1:15 p.m. Sunday in both divisions.

For the Super Seniors, Ron Maki, Steve Danek and Jack Kershasky all shot 86 at Greywalls to take the top three positions for match play.

In the upper bracket, it’ll be Maki vs. Randy Osstyn and Alan McEvoy vs. Marvin Meyers, while in the lower bracket, Danek faces Mike L’Huillier and Kershasky goes against Jim Acocks.
