HANCOCK — Ishpeming High School graduate Katie Loman was among seven Finlandia women’s basketball players that earned academic honors in the Lions’ conference, the American Collegiate Athletic Association.

Loman was one of five FU players, the most of any school in the league in women’s basketball, named league All-Academic, as the Lions had two more who earned All-Academic Honor Roll mention. Their seven total tied for the most of league members in the sport.

To be considered All-Academic, a student-athlete needs a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.50, while for All-Academic Honor Roll, the GPA must be between 3.25 and 3.49.

In all, 18 ACAA women’s basketball players earned the All-Academic honor with another 11 earning mention on the All-Academic Honor Roll. Other league members are Mills, Mount Mary, Pine Manor, Pratt Institute, State University of New York-Delhi, California-Santa Cruz and Valley Forge. These schools are located in Michigan, California, Pennsylvania, New York, Massachusetts and Maine.

Loman has a 3.94 cumulative GPA while majoring in nursing. On the basketball court, she played in 24 games, starting eight of them, and averaging 2.6 points and 2.6 rebounds per game. She also made 14 of 16 free throws, an 88 percent success rate, while making 42 steals, second-high on the team, and dishing out 41 assists, third highest among Lions.

Also named All-Academic were seniors Molly Berg and Taylor Pertile, each for the third time, and sophomores Harlee Froberg and Katie Lundeen.

Honor Roll awards went out to senior Mia Glenn for the second time and sophomore Toria Nagy.

Berg has a 3.85 GPA in applied sports management, Pertile a 3.61 GPA in applied sports management, Froberg a 3.86 GPA in business sports management and Lundeen a 3.85 GPA in physical therapist assistant.

Glenn has a 3.38 GPA in business sports management and Nagy a 3.41 GPA in physical therapist assistant.

Lundeen led the team in scoring at 17.1 ppg and rebounds at 7.7 per contest, while Froberg had averages of 6.1 points and 6.2 rebounds and led the team with 24 blocked shots.

Finlandia finished its season at 16-11, the most wins in the NCAA Division III ACAA that didn’t play conference games but did schedule a postseason tournament that was unable to be played due to the coronavirus pandemic.

In June, Finlandia joined five ACAA members in switching to the Capital Athletic Conference for most sports.
