Hosking skiing finishes today

MARQUETTE — Racing will wrap up today at the Bob Hosking Jr. Memorial Championship alpine ski race at Marquette Mountain that began on Friday.

The event serves as a qualifying race for the Junior Championships for regions 1-4 in the Central U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association for 11 states, ranging from North Dakota and South Dakota to Kentucky.

More than 400 athletes were expected to compete over the weekend for about 180 qualifying spots in under-14 and under-16 year-old groups.

“This event is huge for the local economy, bringing in not only the 400 athletes but their families as well,” Marquette Mountain general manager Andrew Farron said. “We’re so thrilled to host such a far-reaching event right here within the city limits of Marquette.”

U14 and U16 slalom runs were set for Friday, with giant slalom runs Saturday and today. Award ceremonies were set at the ski lodge at 4 p.m. each day, including today, with top-10 finishers receiving awards.
