Games to benefit McIntosh

MARQUETTE – A pair of benefit hockey games to help long-time Marquette Junior Hockey Corporation director Tim McIntosh are scheduled for Saturday at Lakeview Arena in Marquette.

The Marquette Electricians vs. Marquette Senior High School contest involving former players from 1979-2000 is set for 3 p.m.

Then at 4 p.m., the same two teams, but for players from 2000 to the present, will clash.

Both games will be 50 minutes long, divided into two 25-minute periods. Donations will be accepted at the door.

Ryan Riipi, co-organizer of the games with Chris Gobert, said Thursday that McIntosh – also the longtime public address announcer at Northern Michigan University hockey games – has been hospitalized since Feb. 19.

“He suffered a torn aorta valve in his heart and is still in the intensive care unit (at U.P. Health System in Marquette),” Riipi said. “Proceeds from these games will help with his medical expenses.”

Riipi said a silent auction at the games will include five Detroit Red Wings tickets for their game April 5 vs. Minnesota; numerous NHL team jerseys; and four tickets behind home plate for any Detroit Tigers game this season.

He added various local businesses have donated gift certificates for the auction.
