NMU OTS wrestlers roll

MARQUETTE – A quartet of Northern Michigan University Olympic Training Site Greco-Roman wrestlers earned titles Friday night at the University Nationals in Akron, Ohio.

Sammy Jones, Anthonie Linares, Barrett Stanghill and Parker Betts all earned first-place finishes.

Teammates Orry Elor and Dmitry Ryabchinskiy finished second, while earning bronze medals for the NMU team were Jesse Williams and Colin Schubert.

Jones, of Folsom, La., outlasted teammate Ryabchinskiy of Brooklyn, N.Y. to earn his second consecutive university championship at 63 kilograms/138.75 pounds, two matches to one.

“It was a close match, but I was able to finish it out,” Jones commented through a press release.

“It feels good. I love University Nationals it’s our time to shine.

had qualified for the University World Championships, but there will not be a University Worlds competition this year.

The University Worlds will return to its regular schedule in 2016.

NMU-OTS wrestlers will be returning to campus to participate in the Superior International Camp June 7-16.

They will also play host to the Iranian National Team June 28-July 3.
