MARQUETTE — Three Northern Michigan University players received recognition when the GLIAC announced its postseason women’s basketball awards on Friday.

They are senior Makaylee Kuhn, sophomore Jacy Weisbrod and senior Ana Rhude.

The trio led NMU to 19-8 regular season and 13-5 GLIAC records, earning the Wildcats the No. 3 seed in the conference tournament as they hosted a tournament quarterfinal game for the second straight season, defeating Wayne State to move on to today’s semifinals at Grand Valley State.

Kuhn, a guard from Hilbert, Wisconsin, was named to the All-GLIAC First Team for the fourth straight season after leading the league with 18.0 points per game and finishing fourth in rebounding at 6.9 per game.

She scored in double figures in all but two games and averaged 22.0 ppg over the last seven contests, according to a GLIAC news release about the honors.

Kuhn made 83.3% on her free throws, 120 of 144, second in the conference, and became NMU’s all-time leading scorer during the season as she now has 1,957 career points.

Weisbrod, a guard from La Crosse, Wisconsin, playing her first season at Northern, made the All-GLIAC Second Team after averaging 12.5 ppg, a top-10 mark in the conference.

She is far and away the league leader in 3-pointers, making 74 of them in 180 attempts, a 41.1% success rate. Weisbrod is 20th nationally in made 3s and 19th in 3s per game with 2.85. She’s made at least one in all 26 of her games and connected on at least five a half-dozen times. Her 14.8 ppg in GLIAC games ranks fifth.

Rhude, a center from Sussex, Wisconsin, was named to the GLIAC All-Defensive Team for the second straight year as she has been a force in the paint, making 34 blocking shot, second in the conference. She also averages 5.2 rebounds per game and 6.5 ppg. Her 129 career blocks is second in NMU history and just seven shy of all-time leader Jessica Schultz’s 136.
