Westwood Patriots softball team runs past Ishpeming for sweep, 15-4 and 14-0

NATIONAL MINE — The Westwood girls softball team swept a home doubleheader from Ishpeming on Wednesday, 15-4 and 14-0.

In the first inning of the opening game, Ishpeming jumped out to a quick lead.

Already ahead 4-0 in the third, Payton Manninen hit a home run, the first and only one of the game.

However, the Hematites’ lead didn’t last long after Westwood put together a seven-run inning to take the lead for good. Ishpeming wasn’t able to didn’t play catchup by scoring any more runs.

In the shutout in the second game, Westwood kept the Hematites at bay.

Westwood put together its 14-run outburst in just three at-bats with the game lasting four innings.
