William Garetto-Balmer

MARQUETTE — The newest sports team at Northern Michigan University earned its first victory on Nov. 14 as the Wildcats’ eSports team defeated Pittsburg State (Kansas) 2-0.

After a defeat to Grand Valley State three days earlier, these Wildcats coached by William Garetto-Balmer won decisively in each game vs. the Pittsburg State Gorillas, recording 15 kills to five in the first game and 29-13 advantage in the second.

NMU’s Austin Bergquist, who goes by the gamer tag “Not in My House,” boasted five kills, a single death and seven assists to lead his team to victory in the opener.

In Game 2, Cameron Holly — “Cam Is Tipsy” — recorded 16 kills, two deaths and 10 assists to complete the sweep.

Northern’s MVP of the series was Bergquist, who in two games posted nine kills, two deaths and 21 assists.

The Wildcats were set to take on Olivet Nazarene on Saturday, the last match listed on their schedule until mid-January.
