Manistique sweeps Iron Mountain in high school volleyball match

MANISTIQUE — Manistique cut it close in the final two sets but was still able to pull off a three-set home sweep of Iron Mountain in a Mid-Peninsula Conference volleyball match on Monday.

The Emeralds won 25-18, 27-25, 25-21

“We came out hot in the first set, and we just did well,” MHS coach Amy Nixon said. “In the second, we slowed down our movement and communication a little bit. As soon as we took a timeout and reminded them of that, they overcame it.”

Madison Zellar and Brooke Richey led the Emeralds in service aces with three apiece. Zellar also topped digs with 18 while Richey had 10. Nora Cunningham and Emma Jones finished with eight assists apiece, and Ella Shooter led the team in kills with nine. Kayla Muth notched seven blocks as well as seven kills.

IM prevailed 2-1 in the JV match.
