Northern Michigan University Wildcat women 4th at GLIAC indoor track finals

ALLENDALE — The Northern Michigan University women scored in 11 events to post 51 points and a fourth-place finish at the GLIAC Championships indoor track and field meet held at Grand Valley State on Saturday and Sunday.

Senior Paige Du Bois had the Wildcats’ highest finish as runner-up in the 800-meter run on Sunday in 2 minutes, 15.01 seconds. She missed winner Morgan Fuerst of Saginaw Valley State by 0.52 of a second, beating out the third-place finisher by more than a full second.

Other top-eight finishers that scored points for NMU included junior Dunja Drobac coming in fourth in the triple jump with 10.83 meters (35.53 feet).

The Wildcats’ 4-by-400 relay was also fourth in 3:56.16 with Du Bois, Sydney McPeters, Megan Martin and Hannah Jones.

Senior Katelyn Smith scored points twice, finishing fifth in the 5,000 run in 17:22.55 and sixth in the 3,000 in 10:04.93.

Northern’s distance medley relay of Du Bois, Martin, Anna Kelley and Elise Longley was fifth in 12:21.67.

Sophomore Kelsie Sibbald was sixth in the pentathlon with 2,867 points, while fellow sophomore Ninti Little was seventh in the long jump at 5.28 meters (17.32 feet).

And NMU picked up a trio of eighth-place finishes — Martin in the 400 in 1:00.54, Longley in the mile in 5:10.29 and junior Nina Augsten in the 60 hurdles in 9.33 seconds after she posted 9.29 seconds in preliminaries.

The NCAA Division II indoor nationals are March 13-14 in Birmingham, Alabama, while the Wildcats’ outdoor season begins April 4 at the Heidelberg in Tiffin, Ohio, and the Hilltopper Relays in Bowling Green, Kentucky.
