Northern Michigan University Wildcats volleyball team shuts down Purdue Northwest in 4 sets on the road

HAMMOND, Ind. — The Northern Michigan University volleyball team picked up a four-set road win over Purdue Northwest on Friday night to reach the .500 mark in GLIAC play.

The Wildcats (9-2, 5-5 GLIAC) won by set scores of 25-18, 25-20, 23-25 and 25-17.

The performance was backed by senior Sarah Kuehn’s 13-kill night while sophomore Lizzy Stark and freshman Abigail Durecki each added 11. Durecki and sophomore Lauren Caprini also tallied three aces, while freshman Lauren Van Remortel had four kills and 34 assists.

On the defensive end, sophomore Alli Yacko had 23 digs for the Wildcats while sophomores Hailey Wickstron and Lauren Caprini each had nine. Stark and freshman Madeline Crowley had eight apiece.

The teams battled to a 9-9 tie in the first set before NMU pulled ahead with four straight points. The set was won on two Pride attack errors.

The second set was a deadlock at 18-18 before the Wildcats tallied seven of the final nine points, winning the set on two more attack errors.

The third was just as tight with PNW edging the Wildcats by two points, before Northern clinched the match in the fourth on a kill from Durecki.

NMU continues its weekend road trip today by visiting Wisconsin-Parkside (8-14, 3-7 GLIAC) with first serve set for 3 p.m.
