Northern Michigan University men’s soccer team hits road

MARQUETTE — The Northern Michigan University men’s soccer team attempts to end a five-match losing streak with a two-game road trip beginning today.

The Wildcats face GLIAC newcomer Upper Iowa in Fayette, Iowa, for a nonconference game at 4 p.m. today, then come back east to Hammond, Indiana, to face Purdue Northwest at noon EDT Sunday.

While NMU is 3-8 overall and 2-5 in the GLIAC, Upper Iowa is 1-9-1 and PNW is 1-8-1 and 1-5-1 in the GLIAC. Northern defeated Upper Iowa 2-0 and PNW 3-2 in September.

The Wildcats broke a four-game scoreless streak Sunday vs. Wisconsin-Parkside, but still fell 4-2 as junior Vegard Ervall and senior Ben Hoffman scored for Northern.

Sophomore goalkeeper Patrick Restum is ranked fifth in the GLIAC with 34 saves, including four vs. Parkside.
